Weekly Design Recap 37
There’s pretty much no design work involved in the last few weeks so I wonder if there’s any point in keeping up with this weekly entry at all? It’s also Xmas and things are hectic everywhere. Thankfully it’s almost over.
Things I’m working on
Absolutely nothing and it is well embarrassing. Strangely enough, new blog collaborations keep popping up every week for Radiographista and they do make the daily effort worthwhile.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-heart” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’ve enjoyed
It’s been 17 years since I got my first Sony console; as a Nintendo addict, the experience and the games, in general, feel strangely different, not that they lack quality or polish but there’s some other kind of charm involved in them… Anyhow, I got a PS4 Pro and gaming in sweet HDR 4k is a feast for the eyes and worth every Euro cent, as a designer and as a gamer.
I also got more games than I have time to play —one of the perks of being so late to the party is that games are on sale!— but the standouts, so far, are Doom —that music!—, The Last of Us, Firewatch and Inside, which is incredibly dark and engaging. I also got Journey because it is a work of art and it makes my spirit soar.
In terms of the interface, however, the system sluggish and at times cluttered, which makes me appreciate the Nintendo Switch even more. I am not going to sleep until Groundhog Day.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-remove” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’m struggling having problems with
I haven’t had any major issues as of late but one thing has been rather annoying: I can’t seem to properly bake cakes. The last three attempts were still perfectly edible, but the batter drops flat the moment the cake’s out of the oven. I’ve tried different recipes and I muster every bit of attention I can but they won’t come out as expected and I am totally blaming my oven.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-book” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’ve (re)learnt
Youtube provided me with a video on the fabulously pagan origins of the holiday we all call Christmas. I also like the fact that it is almost entirely astronomical in origin and Adam’s version is rather reductionistic because of its TV format, but I think it’s well worth sharing.

Things I’m listening to
I’m a big fan of The Cards Against Humanity gang and they always make the news in the coolest ways, so I was pleased to know that they have a new podcast that focuses on the good things happening around when most news sources seem to deal with the bad.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-exclamation-sign” color=”Accent-Color”]
Random stuff this week
My first hug from a total stranger came from an Uruguayan family member that came to shop at my job and they were happy to see someone spoke Spanish. Reminds me of how warm all of us Latin Americans are.
Also, Darren Hayes —of which I am BIG FAN— favourited a tweet of mine. He actually follows me on Twitter, which makes me gleeful whenever I think of it.
The anxiety when you find out your doctor is impossibly cute.
