Weekly Design Recap 41

This weekend marks the 6th year of Eiko Ishioka’s passing, a Japanese designer that with her costumes for Dracula, the 6th Cell and the Beijing 2008 Olympic’s opening ceremony, is one of the design people that elated me and inspired with their work. This piece by Vox from last year that talks about her astounding career cut short by disease. With that note, let’s begin.

Things I’m working on

I have focused pretty much on my night photography; as I work in Downtown Strasbourg, the sights are often pretty around the cathedral and the main square, Place Kléber and by the time I’m off work rain usually stops, making for some washed reflections. The bulk of the work, however, lies in Lightroom post-processing and I’ve been inspired by Masashi Wakui’s work to get the look I want. This week’s header photo is one of the handful I took this past week and, oh boy, do I have so much to learn.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-heart” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’ve enjoyed

Finished Firewatch and what a joy it has been; I don’t think I have listened to better voice-over acting in a video game than this and I am looking forward to playing it again with the director’s commentary.

Also watched Molly’s Game and I think it’s pretty good for being Aaron Sorkin’ directorial debut, although the wrap up felt rather cheesy. I wouldn’t miss seeing Jessica Chastain onscreen.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-remove” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’m struggling with

German grammar; thanks Duolingo!

Things I’ve learnt

People, we need to get squatting again: sitting down is killing us.

Things I’m listening to

Currently revisiting the piano collection of Hayao Miyazaki’s films and it is pure poetry.

In the news this week

This weekend all also marks the first anniversary of the Women’s Marches across the US and several global cities, and sign-making isn’t that much about design but about a great punchline and this year’s marches have put forth some gems.
