Weekly Design Recap 43

January’s out of the way, and things are slowly beginning to unfold. There are plans to bring my work into a big, public place with international exposure and I will jump right into it.

Things I’m working on

Perhaps not design specific, but I am in talks with the Mexican mission to the European Council to bring my 32 Mexican Flags exhibit to Strasbourg, probably hosting it at the European Place (Lieu de l’Europe) or even the European Council’s lobby itself, which is kind of a huge deal. I’d need to print them, translate lots of text into French and possibly German and I would be in charge of setting it up myself so I’d have to learn about museography, too. but in all the prospect is pretty daunting and encouraging and it may open new doors. I’ll update as everything falls into place.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-heart” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’ve enjoyed

Airline identity design is one of my favourite design specialisations and whenever there’s change in the industry I am up to speed rather quickly. The latest one to have gone through a rather significant redesign is Lufthansa which has switched to a monochromatic blue palette and more streamlined emblem all the while keeping it’s emblematic Helvetica logotype. Ich liebe es.

Things I’m struggling with

Next week I’d be doing my regular full time job in the nearby city of Colmar, but I’ll be opening at 7; the whole affair means I would be cycling and taking a tram and a train to get there, which is all very European but I fear I might be delayed for some reason, not considering my very early mornings.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-book” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’ve learnt

We’ve been aware of lead’s poisonous properties for a few decades now but I am dumbfounded to know that the Romans used it to sweeten things up.

Things I’m listening to

Haven’t run into a new, noteworthy podcast in the last week but I’ve found myself listening to Caribou’s Our Love & Jagged Little Pill Acoustic because we sometimes need a little Alanis Morissette’s angst to get by.
