Weekly Design Recap 39
Every new year starts slowly, and so do resolutions take shape. In France, this weekend they celebrate Epiphany, which in Mexico is Día de Reyes and since nostalgia is at its peak, I decided to make rosca de reyes, which is killing my purpose of eating sensibly. No big design developments and I just need to settle for a thing to work on.
Things I’m working on
I signed up for this website a year ago which meant I had to renew everything; Namecheap’s automation worked but for the SSL certificate and I just hate when technology doesn’t work as it is supposed to. Hiccups aside, the site is running properly and I still think the template holds up: it’s minimal and crisp and the point is to feature the work, not the website itself.
In terms of 2018’s resolutions, I want to take photography more seriously and I am currently shopping for a good, midrange camera, preferably mirrorless and with 4K capabilities plus a 50mm lens; so far I’m considering between a Canon —which is my usual brand— and a Sony, which my dear friend Gibrán recommends. Hope I can make my mind up in the coming weeks.
Design-wise I haven’t decided yet but I do have a couple of projects that I could resume and I just need to make time for them, at least an hour a day.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-heart” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’ve enjoyed
First, Crawl for Switch. This little game came out a couple of years ago, first on PC and to be completely honest, I got it for its looks but it holy shit, is it fun. The action is somewhat hectic and it is definitely tough, remaining a fair game through and through, which would make it a great option for a local multiplayer that feels like weirdly like a board game. The art style can make it difficult to follow the action at times, but the chiptune music is phenomenal and I can’t recommend it enough.
I’m dedicating lunch breaks to read so, and The Casual Vacancy is the first on this year’s list and I am definitely not going to write a book review, but I find it rather refreshing to read something J. K. Rowling wrote without being Harry Potter related.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-remove” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’m struggling with

Things I’ve learnt
Something I can’t quite wrap my head around is mathematical probability and the enormity of numbers, so this Cracked piece on extreme statistics blows my mind. Every time you shuffle a card deck you’re creating a combination that’s never been done before; my brain says it can’t be true but math don’t lie.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-headphones” color=”Accent-Color”]
Things I’m listening to
Polygon premiered a new podcast a couple of weeks ago and even though they go outside the scope of video games on it, I really liked the Super Mario Kart episode.
