Weekly Design Recap 30

30 weeks already? I do surprise myself with my consistency but it doesn’t happen very often. Still, no new developments on any design work which make this and the latter entries not so much of a design recap, doesn’t it?

Things I’m working on

Since none of the client-driven projects are moving forward, I am resuming my own and decided I will work on them even during my lunch breaks, instead of aimlessly browsing Twitter… So now, I am working on a grid-system to design the covers for the Science Book series project I’ve had in mind for a while; not that I’ve thought of any grid system yet but reading Grid Systems in Graphic Design by Josef Müller Brockmann is teaching me a lot.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-heart” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’ve enjoyed

Speaking of books, I ran into a nice compilation of emblems and marks from galleries and museums around the world while browsing the Casa Picasso store in Barcelona. It’s a nimble curatorial effort by Counter Print called Art Marks and for less than 20 USD it’s a worthy inclusion in any designer’s library. And I totally judged it by its cover.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-remove” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’m struggling with

I’m not going to elaborate for the moment since there’s nothing worth mentioning but I can say that now that I have a job and social security I may be considering getting therapy or counselling. I’m not suicidal or anything but I think I could start venting with someone that actually has a professional background in the matter.[/text-with-icon][text-with-icon icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-book” color=”Accent-Color”]

Things I’ve learnt

Only until I moved to Europe I realised there are carefully designed sound cues engraved on highways. Getting a little off track? You’re likely to drive over grooves on the asphalt that will ring at a higher pitch than usual and thus alert you that you should correct course or maybe not play Pokémon Go whilst driving. What I didn’t know until a few days ago is that there’s a road in California that took this sound feature to the next level and actually included a song; it came out wrong, though since the disparity between Imperial and Metric systems still screws things up today.

This vid was made by one of my favourite Youtube channels is run by this perpetual nerd that I admire profoundly and it’s too good to not share.

Things I’m listening to

I stand by my opinion that, in pop music, no one comes close to what the UK and Australia pour out to the world. That being said, I was giddy to see that one of my fave pop bands of the last decade, The Presets, have released a single after a 3-year absence. Which obviously means I have this on repeat.
